Week 15 Edition

Playoffs week 2

Playoffs preview round 2, by Felix owner of daUCBcat

Hi everyone,

First off, my apologies go to the Pigskinned Monkeys. Their decision to start Beuerlein over George turned out awesome! It wasn't enough for a victory, but it was close. So, going into the second round of the playoffs, my prediction record stands at 7-5, and we'll see if we can improve that this week.

George Halas League

Championship Playoff

Lincoln Assassins vs. Sportin' Life
As he trotted out his lineup, Michael Switzer of the Lincoln Assassins yelled out, "dammit! Timmy B, where are thee?" After a quick look at his lineup, and at Sportin' Life's lineup, one can see why. Brunell should outplay McNown at QB, ,but the RBs are going to be close. The Assassins are starting James and Staley, while Sportin' is countering with Dunn, Gary, and George. By all means, I do not expect George to repeat last week's feat, but he should play James toe to toe. That leaves the game in the hands of the WRs. If Timmy B could start, Engram would not be playing, but he's now forced into the lineup. With Moss and Toomer on the wings, Lincoln Assassins look daunting. Moss is up against a Green Bay defense that shut him down for 2 catches for 13 yards and a TD last time. If that happens again, I think Sportin' Life has a chance in this game. Will it happen again? Singularity in nature is a miracle. I'm going with Sportin' Life this week!
Prediction: Sportin' Life
Players to watch: Moss, Toomer, Brown, Lewis

Kardiac Kids vs. Shek Republic
With the lineup the Kids is trotting out there, it's a testament to how good their management team is, to be able to go this far into the season. However, they are facing a tough Shek Republic team this week, and the Kardiac run by the Kardiac Kids could end right here. Will it? I have the feeling that this game will be decided by Garner and Watters. Manning and Warner should put up the same number of points. Connell has came down to earth as Washington's passing O comes down to earth. Was last week a one week wonder for Qadry? Or did the Missile finally arrived on the scene? This is a tough call, but I'm gonna give myself another chance for a heart attack and go with the Kardiac Kids.
Prediction: Kardiac Kids
Players to Watch: Watters, Garner

Consolation Bowl

Thundering Gerbils vs. Brigantine 69ers
Well, you gotta give kudos to the 69ers for giving early Christmas present for his MVP, Corey Dillon. They gave him a week off in the middle of playoff...who can beat that? There are a lot of people calling for Flutie's head right now at Buffalo, but I don't expect Aikman to outplay him, not when Aikman only has one option to throw to, and that one option is quadrupled covered. I think the great matchups in this game are going to be Davis vs. Holmes, Jeffers vs. Martin, and Moulds vs. Walls. The Gerbils interesting asked "I don't suppose Jeffers and Davis could improve on last week's performance?" Well, guess what Gerbils, Christmas comes early for you too. Jeffers is up against the "vaunted" Niners secondary. Atlanta didn't take advantage of it last week, but I don't think Carolina will have that problem. The Gerbils will ride Jeffers's hands and legs to victory this week, while the 69ers receives the "Most Compassionate Manager of the Year" award.
Prediction: Gerbils in a Thunderin' fashion
Players to Watch: Flutie, Moore, Davis, Jeffers.

Wayne Fontes vs. Meat Weasels
Oiy...these games don't get any easier, do they? Bledsoe had a decent game last week, and I believe he will step it up in this last few weeks of the season. However, any coach should be shaking in their boots when they look across the field, and see Freeman, Bruce, and Galloway starting in a 4 WRs set complemented by Westbrook. Although Lane will not be adequate, I think Meat Weasels will start the call for the firing of Wayne Fontes again!
Prediction: Meat Weasels
Players to watch: Crowell, Glenn, Lucas
and I guess Weapons of Love really really want to play still, as he submitted a lineup... uh..Not bad too, now that Taylor is in there...

Art Rooney League

Championship Playoff

Boston Swarm vs. D.S. Dolphins
This is going to be my game of the week!! Looking at the lineups, I'm going to circle the weaknesses, because the strengths are way too much to name. For the Swarm, Allen needs to prove that he steps it up when the pressure is up, and for the Fins, Gonzalez needs to repeat last week's performance. I think Allen will step it up a notch this week, and Swarm will ride him to the victory
Prediction: Boston Swarm
Players to watch: Allen, Gonzalez

Lewinsky Swallows Vs Hoosier Tornados
Okay, I don't know if the Swallows are going to realize this, but COREY DILLON IS ON A BYE!! With that, and Greg Hill's "Dang it! I used to be good!" MO, I'm going to lean toward the Tornados. The RBs battle will not be pretty in this game, but Jeff George vs. Kurt Warner is promising. The fun stuff is the WRs though. Will Alexander burn Pittsburgh' secondary deep like Ismail did last week? Will Jeffers burn the Niners secondary? Will Owens play? Can the Rocket shake the opposing CBs off him? We'll see.
Prediction: Tornados
Players to Watch: Warner, George, Owens, Jeffers

Consolation Bowl

Wisconsin Z-Force vs. Four Horsemen
This is an interesting game, because there are too many question marks. Was Bledsoe's game last week a miracle, or is he really back? Is Levens healthy enough to be effective? Is Watters done fumbling, or is he bumbling back to the bench? Are the Cards Offense ready to go? Glenn might have a big game if Bledsoe is really back... The two none question marks are Moss and Walls. Walls should get at least a score against the Niners D, and Moss should rack up some points against the Packers D. After Peterson's 3 misses last week, I'm going to go with the more consistent Richey, and the Z-Force. Besides, after giving me the "NGFFL Golden Fleece of the Year" award, how can I go against Carl's team? Wait, this IS his team, right?
Prediction: Z-Force
Players to Watch: All the aforementioned question marks.

Molino FFL vs. MediaBLITZ
Another team with a 5 WRs set in the Molino FFL...Freeman and McCaffrey are consistent WRs...Gadsden, Rice and have a lot of uncertainty though. However, I think they might win this game. Although BLITZ's Favre will have a huge game against the Minn D, Collins shouldn't be too bad either. Alstott and Hoard should put up huge numbers, but BLITZ is hoping for a miracle in starting Stewart. Bruce should have a huge game, and Schroeder should benefit from Bradford's injury. When push comes to shove, however, I'm going to go with Molino FFL this week.
Winner: Molino FFL
Players to watch: Alstott, Hoard, Rice, Wilkins

Paul Brown League

Championship Playoff

Cleveland Browns vs. Austin Powers International Team of Mystery
The Browns are sportin' a 4 WRs and 1 TE look. We all know that the Browns have the best record in the league, but when Steve ranked them as the #1 overall team in the NGFFL, people started crying "foul." I think the Browns have a lot to prove this week. On the other hand, we have the AP Team of Mystery. This is truly a team of mystery, as they made the playoff with a 4-9 record, yet sports one of the highest scoring team in the NGFFL. Going with convention, I think many people would choose the Browns to win. However, as a columnist, I wouldn't earn a living by telling people what they already know! Let's go Austin!! Heather Graham is waiting for your mojo!! Go Austin!!
Prediction: Austin Powers in a blowjob!! I mean, er..blowOUT!!
Players to watch: Austin Powers, Heather Graham, Dr. Evil, Mini Me

Atlanta Jackhammers vs. Maho Marauders
Collins' resurgence and Johnson's consistency have made the Jackhammers a contender. However, are they good enough to be the champion? Is Levens healthy enough to play? Is this week's Hakim's turn to score? How bout the Rocket? Those questions mark will cause the Jackhammers to get jacked by the Marauders, who are marauding everyone with Manning, George and James. Their decision to start Pollard is interesting, and I think they should give Alexander a chance. But the three headed monster of Manning, George and James should be enough.
Prediction: Maho Marauders
Players to Watch: Levens, Rice

Consolation Bowl

Starfleet Academy vs. daUCBcat
Ouch...the Academy are pointing their "Beurlein Phasers" at me...ouch, ouch. That and the fact that I have Jake the Snake starting for me...Is he really that overrated?? Last week, the plays of Jeffers, Keyshawn, and Scott took me to victory, but Scott decided after giving me 10+ points for 3 weeks in a row, he deserves a break..so I gave him a one week vacation. Luckily, Taylor is back! But, can his hammy hold up? Same question to Muhsin. Up against the Niners D, but can his hammy hold up? They are the key players in this game, as Beuerlein should outplay Plummer, and Jeffers and Keyshawn blow out Hatchette and Toomer, despite the Giants' resurgent D. Like last week, you're crazy if you think I'm going to pick against myself.
Prediction: daUCBcat
Players to Watch: Taylor, Muhammad

Huntley Hackers vs. Big Sky Blitz
Last week, Class Dismissed paid a huge price by letting their class out early. So I guess this week, the Big Sky Blitz is following suit. Go figure. Hey...does anyone think...that the Huntley Hackers hacked into Big Sky's computer, and caused his lineup submissions to be erased every single time? Uh oh, in that case, GO HACKERS!!! (please don't do that to me!)
Prediction: Huntley Hackers!! Go go go!! They're gonna score 500 points this week!! Go Hackers!! (please please please don't hurt me!!)
Players to watch: Uh..will Michael wake up early enough to realize that he doesn't have a lineup yet...?

That's all folks!! Have fun this week!!

Felix
