Week nine analysis

Halas League

Shek Republic (83 pts) defeated Brigantine 69ers (82 pts)
Close game with the high scoring Republic pulling out the victory with Leroy Hoard on MNF. The Republic has vowed never to lose a tie breaker and has made good on that promise as they send the 69ers down to the cellar of the Sayers Division.
Top Scorer = Peyton Manning 27 pts.

Oklahoma OhNos (87 pts) defeated Meat Weasels (66 pts)
The OhNos smack the QB'less Weasels into submission with the scoring duo of Kitna and Smith. Unfortunately Emmitt was injured in the game and may miss a couple of weeks. Sort of a bittersweet victory for Oklahoma.
Top Scorer = Emmitt Smith 26 pts.

Lincoln Assassins (83 pts) defeated Sportin' Life (72 pts)
The Assassins continue to pick off their opponents as they stay 1 game out of 1st in the Sayers division. Lincoln's Randy Moss took the life out of Sportin' Life with a spectacular MNF performance. Sportin's QB outscored Lincoln's 20-0 but failed to stop the running game led by Staley and James.
Top Scorer = Edgerrin James 25 pts.

Pigskinned Monkeys (74 pts) defeated Weapons of Love (70 pts)
The Monkeys showed no love to Weapons of Love as Jeff George propelled them to victory on MNF. Coincidentally this is one of several games decided by MNF performances. Pigskinned Monkeys hold on to playoff hope!
Top Scorer = Jeff George 21 pts.

Thundering Gerbils (84 pts) defeated Kiwi Air (64 pts)
Kiwi Air wasn't flying high as the Gerbils brought down the Thunder AND the Payton division leader. The T-Gerbils managed double digit performances from 6 out of their 8 starters. A total team effort. They also set a personal best in points.
Top Scorer = Mike Alstott 18 pts. in a losing effort

Kardiac Kids (112 pts) defeated Wayne Fontes (80 pts)
These Kids have put together back to back impressive weeks. By scoring a week 10 high of 112 pts., they put Wayne Fontes even closer to being let go at season's end. Still hope though. Kardiac is just 1 game out of first place in the Payton Division.
Top Scorer = (tie) Ricky Watters 25 pts. and Errict Rhett 25 pts. in the loss.

Rooney League, by Alf

The playoff teams are still undecided as 11 teams are on the race from The Lewinsky Swallows (7-2) to Four Horsemen (3-6) to qualify. Only our esteemed CEO's teamTitan Traders (1-8) is definitively out of the race.
To resume this week's games : the leading teams won, and the trailing teams lost !

The Lewinsky Swallows (93 pts) defeated Molino FFL (58 pts)
Lewinsky is still the leading team in the Art Rooney league. They were litterally carried by Kurt Warner and Errict Rhett last week. On the other side, Molino FFL is hurting at QB with Jeff Garcia (3) and other QBs unavailable this week (Trent Green, Kerry Collins, Kent Graham, Brian Griese, Bubby Brister). Air Molino could only count on Cris Carter and Albert Connell.
Top scorer : QB Kurt Warner - 27

Hoosier Tornados (94 pts) defeated Class Dismissed (85 pts)
Class Dismissed lost another player this week with Emmitt Smith's broken hand. Another injury to add to the Class team (McNair, J Anderson, Robert Smith, EG Green). The matchup of this game might have been the Defenses where Hoosier Tornados Denver Broncos (16) took the edge over Seattle Seahawks (5). Hoosier Tornados now are one game ahead of Class and that might count in four weeks when we will determine playoffs teams.
Top scorer : RB Emmitt Smith - 26

European 99'ers (84 pts) defeated Titan Traders (65 pts)
Well, Traders won their first game of the year last week (mainly due to playing a Terry Bradshaw team ;-) but came down to earth this week where Fred Taylor was his only weapon. On the other side, my European 99ers just scored as always their 80 pts to win this game and keep the second place in Franco Harris division.
Top scorer : QB Peyton Manning - 22

D.S. Dolphins (115 pts) defeated MediaBLITZ (72 pts)
Dolphins and MediaBLITZ were 4-4 before this game and Dolphins have taken a slight advantage. This team has won NGFFL week 9 Team of the week award. Need I say more ? Well yes ! 4 players scored 20+ points (Brunell, Garner, Gary, Miami). On the other side, MediaBLITZ could only count on 2 guys : Jon Kitna and Mike Alstott, but that wasn't enough.
Top scorer : RB Olandis Gary - 23

Boston Swarm (76 pts) defeated Wisconsin Z-Force (63 pts)
Boston Swarm won this contest without a starting QB (Marino 0) and a starting RB (Biakabutuka 0) to comfort his leading position in Terry Bradshaw Division and overall total points leader. He could count on his running game with Staley and James whereas Z-Force only threat was Randy Moss who had a good day.
Top scorer : RB Edgerrin James - 25

Tianemen Tanks (106 pts) defeated Four Horsemen (89 pts)
The shoutout game of the week ! Unfortunately for Z-Force, the Tanks have been solid, therefore pushing our Commish's team to the last place in Bradshaw division. Jim Harbaugh (yes Jim Harbaugh !), Ricky Watters and Todd Peterson were the top players for Z-Force, but Tianamen Tanks had even more than that (Flutie, Crowell, Muhammad, Jaguars) and are still on the playoff race.
Top scorer : RB Ricky Watters - 25

Brown League, by Conquie

Far be it from me to be a rumor mill, but I'm hearing talk... Apparently - and this is not confirmed independently - Carmen Policy and Dwight Clark have been having extensive conversations with our own Ken Po, regarding a position on their scouting staff. It seems that they figure anyone that can compile a 8 - 1 record with the name Cleveland Browns must merit consideration! Good luck Ken, and make sure to ask for a company car with unlimited mileage, willya? ;-)

Divisional rivalries heated up this week, as teams start jockeying for playoff berths, coming down the home stretch.

Starfleet Academy (92 pts) defeated Maho Marauders (83 pts)
We begin with Starfleet Academy's "schooling" of the Maho Marauders - Starfleet's vaunted choices of Steve Young and Terrell Owens contributed a total of one point to the effort, but it just goes to show what kind of year it's been, as Steve Beuerlein and Errict Rhett contributed almost half the team's total points, along with a good day from the Jag's Defense and Jason Elam's always strong leg. Greg's Marauders put up a valiant fight, getting great numbers from Manning and James, but in the end, to no avail, as Starfleet won the day, 92 - 83.

Degeneration X (109 pts) defeated Ebola Zaire (67 pts)
Next up, Degeneration X continued reining chaos on his opposition, this week making Ebola Zaire look more like your average head cold - it'll slow you down a bit, but nothing you can't prod through with a bit of effort! Every starter on Degen's roster broke double digits, except the Pittsburgh D (5 pts.) and Warrick Dunn, who still managed a healthy 9 point contribution to the cause. At the sound of the final whistle, Degeneration X had cruised to a 109 - 67 victory.

Cleveland Browns (82 pts) defeated Austin Powers International Team of Mystery (79 pts)
Rounding out the Jim Brown Division matchups, The strong got stronger, and the weak got... well, the weak got nobody to shag again! Ken's aforementioned powerhouse Cleveland Browns squeaked out a close 82 - 79 victory over Hunter's Austin Powers squad, leaving Hunter to wonder if maybe bad teeth and wearing a bad toupee on his chest may just be scaring off the ladies after all. Nonetheless, Hunter is still in the hunt for a playoff berth, by virtue of his holding the third highest overall scoring in the league thus far (the other two teams already in the playoffs by record). It seems that while Hunter may not be getting much shagging done, he still knows how to "score"!

Predators (89 pts) defeated Atlanta Jackhammers (58 pts)
Over in the Otto Graham Division, your humble Commish clawed his way back to the top, soaring over the Atlanta Jackhammers with an 89 - 59 win, despite Emmitt's attempts to take the game into his own hands. Kitna, Alstott, C. Martin and McCardell (fresh off his brilliant bye week performance) led the charge, while the Jackhammers will probably start desperately scouring the waiver wire for a QB that will put up more than one point!

daUCBcat (96 pts) defeated Connor's DawgPen (76 pts)
Meanwhile, it was Cat versus Dawg, as Felix's daUCBcat's dug their claws into Connor's DawgPen, who's still "penned up" in the division basement. Strong backfield performances from Ricky Watters and Olandis Gary were the difference in a tough 96 - 76 victory. With Couch only contributing 2 points to the cat's totals, and Aikman contributing 5 to Ernest's bottom line, this was definitely not a game played in the air!

Huntley Hackers (75 pts) defeated Big Sky Blitz (74 pts)
Last but certainly not least, a battle royale had to be decided on tie breakers between Pete's Huntley Hackers and Michael's Big Sky Blitz, as they came out of Monday Night knotted in a 74 - 74 tie! On the basis of total yardage by starters, Pete proved that a hot knife is better than hot air, gaining the one point advantage and "edge" from a total of 580 yards to Michael's 487. Talk about a bitter battle, these were two teams knotted at 4 - 4 going into this week's game, so third place in the division was riding the line along with everything else.

For the upcoming week, more divisional games highlight the beginning of the final month of regular season play, matchups are now listed under the division standings. Good luck to everyone, but only a little to Felix, whom this bird is hoping he's a cat that doesn't have nine lives!
