Brown League, by Conquie

As the regular season winds down, many of the playoff teams are now decided, but that elusive sixth slot is still very much up in the air! Felix's daUCBcats exploded on the scene with a 114 outing to overtake Hunter's Austin Powers squad for a lead, at least for the time being, in highest point total for an otherwise non-playoff team... Here's how things shook out in Week 11:

Starfleet Academy (73 pts) defeated Austin Powers International Team of Mystery (47 pts)
Commander's Starfleet Academy cadets "trekked" their way through Hunter's International Team of Mystery this week, leaving Hunter to try and solve the mystery of where his scoring has gone! Most weeks Hunter has been content to "score" if he doesn't "shag", but lackluster performances that only had one player in double digits left him pretty much "holding his own" this week. Starfleet managed to pull out a decisive victory even down a player, as Commander seemingly came down with a case of "Executive Committee-itis", following in the footsteps of your humble Commish and League VP Felix, by starting Leroy Hoard even though he was idle this week. A press conference after the game found a rather sheepish Commander grumbling about poor performances from his native San Francisco players, saying, "We just felt that Hoard being on the bye would give us as much chance to put up points as starting Owens or Young". This leaves the season series between these two teams decidedly in Starfleet's favor, at 2 - 0.

Cleveland Browns (123 pts) defeated Degeneration X (67 pts)
Can you say, "Powerhouse"? or perhaps "Dynasty"? Certainly you can say "Juggernaut"! Ken's Cleveland Browns seem to be absolutely unstoppable, nearly doubling the scoring total of this week's victim, Degeneration X. Coach / GM David Randall was quoted at the post game conference as muttering something about, "Why couldn't these blasted Browns be a little more like the NFL version...", most of the rest of the quote being bleeped out by the network censors. Twenty-plus point performances from Mark Brunell, Jimmy Smith and the St. Louis Rams defense led the charge for the Browns against a normally potent Degeneration X team that got poor showings from Albert Connell, Tim Brown and Warrick Dunn in a decisive loss. This gives the Browns a season sweep over Degeneration X.

Maho Marauders (123 pts) defeated Ebola Zaire (58 pts)
Greg's Maho Marauders pounded out a point total equaling this week's league high, posting more than double that of their hapless victim, Jeff White's Ebola Zaire. Peyton Manning (22 points) and Edgerrin James (37 points) were all that Greg needed to seal victory, as Ebola got sub-par outings from Brad Johnson (6 points), Derrick Mayes (0 points), and Tyrone Wheatley (5 points) in a devastating loss. But all is not lost for Jeff, with a 7 - 4 record his squad is virtually assured a playoff berth, while the Marauders put themselves into second place in the division with the same record. Another team breaks out the broom, as the Marauders sweep Jeff's team for the season.

Atlanta Jackhammers (73 pts) defeated Connor's DawgPen (29 pts)
Any of DaVinci's chest thumping that may have been heard at this post-game press conference has to be taken with a grain of salt, but that's only because he was this week's beneficiary of scheduling against a DawgPen now in full rebuilding mode. Ernest's Dawgs took another brutal drubbing at the hand of the Jackhammers, who keep a solid foothold on a playoff berth at 7 - 4, while Ernest remains in the league basement and puts a stone cold lock on the first overall pick next year at 2 - 9. Solid outings from JJ Johnson, Emmitt Smith and Dorsey Levens, certainly one of the most potent backfields in the league, propelled DaVinci to an easy blowout win, but with the playoffs around the corner, the Jackhammers coaching staff has to still have concern over the QB position, with Kent Graham reverting to his more familiar form, contributing a measly one point to the stats. Once again there is a fire sale on brooms, as the Jackhammers sweep Connor's DawgPen for the year.

daUCBcat (114 pts) defeated Big Sky Blitz (84 pts)
I can hear Felix saying it now, "Don't be breakin' out any brooms here! Vengeance is MINE!!" The daUCBcats exacted sweet revenge for an early season defeat at the hands of the Blitz, putting up one of his most impressive point totals of the year. Leslie Visser interviewed Ricky Watters, leading scorer in the game for the Cats, on the sidelines after the game. Watters was quoted as saying, "We were all pumped for this game, and even though we may still have a shot at a playoff berth, the main focus for our players was simple revenge... We really wanted to take it to the house on these guys for what they did to us earlier this year". The other half of the Ricky & Ricky backfield was interviewed with his helmet on as usual, although he watched this game from the sidelines. Much of what was said could not be understood because of the helmet, but you could tell that Williams was anxious to contribute, and was a little miffed at the Coach for benching him, especially in light of his seeing the end zone for the first time in his pro career. The daUCBcats now hold the sixth playoff berth by virtue of total points, but with two weeks to go, a lot can change!

Predators (88 pts) defeated Huntley Hackers (30 pts)
You know that things aren't going in your favor when your team only bests the totals of the DawgPen by one point for the week. There are only three quotable words from Coach Pete Gaeta's post game conference, "We played like..." the rest of it had to be deleted by the censors, as the Hackers seem doomed to watch the post-season from the golf course this season. Glenn Geisler, Predators Coach and GM expressed admiration for his opponent, attributing the victory to a combination of teamwork and dedication, and easy scheduling that seemed to have them facing the Hackers at opportune times. "It's still a long uphill climb looking forward to the playoffs, and things are not going to get any easier the rest of the way" he was quoted as saying, "And we're going to have to count on 110% effort from all of our guys to keep on a roll going into the post-season". He was careful to point out the spectacular play week after week from emerging superstar Marcus Robinson, a free agent acquisition that is now the second leading scorer on the team, only behind Jon Kitna. "Marcus has been stellar" he said, adding "I can't remember the last time he didn't go over 100 yards receiving plus a score in a week. That kind of consistency has to be the model which we build our championship hopes around."

Once again this week five teams swept their season series, with only one team evening the score, bringing the season total to 10 sweeps to two ties. It should be a lively off-season as many of the teams swept this year look to build for revenge next season. This coming week we have a rematch of the week 4 games, which saw the Cleveland Browns absorb their only loss thus far. All eyes will be on Ebola Zaire, as they try to repeat the success they enjoyed earlier in the year! Results of Week 4 listed below for easy reference. Good luck to all this week, and remember it's an early one, make sure to get your lineups in on time!
